While the app has seen a lot of research in the months since its launch in 2015, the graph shows a sharp drop in interest until 2016. On their website, the developers published a graph of searches for "popcorn time" over the past seven years.
It remains to be seen if Popcorn Time is now gone forever, but it seems that the biggest contributor to its recent demise is waning interest in the app.
But because the project was open source, other developers were able to pick up where they left off, and it has been killed and revived a few times since. The original developers removed the service and abandoned the project just days after it launched in 2014. Popcorn Time, the app that was once popular for making pirated movies as easy as Netflix, has been shut down.
